Few Advantages of Ancient Gurukul System:
1, It focuses on all round development of a student like science, physical, mental…
2, Interaction between student and teachers is more compared to present day system. The respect of student to his/her teacher is more.
3, class rooms will be inside forests, which helps students to keep towards nature, which keeps them healthy.
4, practical sciences were taught.
5, No pressure over students, which helps them to concentrate on concepts clearly.
6, no craving for ranks.
7, Vedic literature used to be common in ancient Gurukul System which helps students learn values and ethics.
8, last but not least, ancient Gurukul System is much towards practicality rather than theoretical. Where students learn things by doing practically rather than mugging up which happens in present generation schools.
Disadvantages of gurukul system:-
• They miss out the benefits of modern academic education, hence, even though they learn Vedic sutras, remain practically uneducated, and then lead the rest of their life dependent on charity and good will of others.
• Children left their homes and near and dear ones at the tender age of eight and stayed away from their parents for over 12 years. This was a great penance.
• There used to be discrimination at the entry level about the admission in GURUKUL. As we have seen that EKLAVYA was not given admission by GURU DRONACHARYA as he was not Kshatriya (WARRIOR CASTE).
• Females are not admitted to the GURUKUL.
• The Guru's words were final and the shishya could not argue or put across his point to the GURU.
• There was no standard syllabus and conventional evaluation and examination system.
• They led a sheltered life at Gurukul and could not know much about the outside world.
