advantages of viruses are :-

viruses like bacteriophages have an important function in marine ecology and carbon cycling .
in genetics viruses are used ad vectors to introduce genes in the cell which are the case of study .
virotherapy is another use of virus where they are used as vectors to treat various diseases.
they are used in the treatment of cancer and in gene therapy.

disadvantages of viruses are:-

it can be transmitted from horizontally , I.e. from person to person like mother to child .
viruses can cause cancer in humans and other species .
