Galvanisation is a process in which iron objects are coated with zinc layer to prevent it from rusting. So it does not come in direct contact with air (oxygen) and moisture.

It protect the metal from corrossion by wind, heat and moisture by forming a protective layer on it. The layer get corroded itself but protects the metal.
