Advantages of the Mahalwari System:

Revolutionised land as an asset or property that can be pledged for mortgage, sale, or purchase. The land became a market commodity product with exchange, transfer or purchase value assigned according to its condition.

• Introduced capitalistic agrarian production and introduced commercial agriculture as farmers were forced to do so to meet their financial needs.

Village community or the mahals were institutionalised with the village headman being in charge of the whole process.

The system was more flexible. It had simplified the processing of estimating the produces and fixing the rents according to the condition of the land.

• It proved to be a great stabilised income generator for the then British Government because the land was always pledged by the farmers due to ever-growing agrarian financial needs .
