advantage of using alcohol instead of mercury in a thermometer

we can use alcohol in thermometer but mercury is liquid at room temperature.so, mercury is better than alcohol because alcohol can freeze below one degree celcius.but mercury is good as mercury donor freeze below one degree Celsius
