Two Disadvantages: All maps have distortions because it is impossible to represent a three-dimensional objects like the earth accurately on flat maps. Maps with no scale give a poor idea of distances and maps with no legend are frequently confusing to the user

1) One is able to easily measure distance with the help of a linear scale.

2) If the map is photographically enlarged/reduced, the scale is also enlarged/reduced in the same ratio and remains true to the map.

Disadvantages:-

1) The scale can only be used by those who are familiar with the unit of measurement present on the map.

2) It requires time and proficiency in creating a linear scale.
