Nylon and rayon are the synthetic fibre that resemble silk, whereas acrylic is the synthetic fibre that resemble wool in its texture and properties. That's why it is used to make sweaters, shawls, socks, etc. It is a soft, warm, wrinkle free and shrinkage free fibre. It can be dyed into a variety of colours. It is cheaper than wool.
Advantages of synthetic fibres :-
If we compare natural fibre and synthetic fibre synthetic fibre are more adventurous in many aspects than natural fibres. Some of them are as follows :-
1. Synthetic fibers are strong and durable.
2. They are maintenance free, easy to wash and wear. They do not get wrinkled.
3. They absorb less water and are quick to dry, that's why swimming costume and beach wears are made from synthetic fibres.
4. They possess shine and lustre similar to that of natural fibres, but they are less expensive and affordable.
5. They do not shrink.
6. They are moth and insect resistant .
7. We don't need to depend upon crops and animal to yeild them.
Disadvantages of synthetic fibres :-
1. Synthetic fibres catch fire easily and they melt on heating. On melting they stick to body that causes severe burns. So, they are not suitable to wear at places where flame or heat is used.
2. They do not absorb water and sweet so, in hot and humid conditions, they stick to body due to sweat and make us feel uncomfortable.
3. Sometimes, wearing synthetic clothes in summer can cause allergies due to deposition of sweat.
4. They are not good for environment.
5. They use a huge amount of our exhaustible resources like petrochemicals for their production.
