Some chemical reactions produce useful products that can be very helpful and at the same time they may produce by-products which are harmful to the environment. Ex: Burning of carbon (as fuel) in presence of oxygen produces heat that can be used for various purposes but during burning carbon dioxide is also produced which is harmful gas for the environment if releases in large amounts
