To counter the ohmic losses, electricity is transmitted in a high voltage. 2. The heating effect reduces the life of several components in a circuit.

In simple terms the advantage of heating effect of current is heaters like water heater , room heaters etc; but in electrical system , heating effect of current increases the resistance thus resulting in increase in voltage drop, increased loss of power etc., thus reducing the efficiency of the rotary equipments.
