Advantages of Indian Polity are:

1. India polity is a democratic polity and therefore India is the largest ‘functioning’ democracy in the world. ‘Functioning’ means that democratic processes and practices are actually followed and adhered to. In democracy, people have the opportunity to have a responsible and elected government.

2. India polity, being democratic provides for fundamental rights to people including rights to freedom, equality, religious freedom, cultural rights of minorities, constitutional remedies and so on. These rights are essential for the all round development of citizens. The right to freedom also include freedom to print and electronic media and other forms of communication.

3. India polity promotes the principles of democratic decentralization through the Local Self-Government bodies in rural and urban areas. These institutions provide opportunity to people at grass root level for political participation and empowerment. These institutions are rightly termed as ‘Grass Root Level Democracy’ or the ‘Third Tier of Government’.

Disadvantages of Indian Polity are:

1. One of the disadvantages of Indian Polity is having a Single Supreme Court as an apex court.
