For instance, consider you are from Bihar and you are residing in Karnataka for your studies, say Engineering. You are staying in a flat nearby to your college and you cook your own food. You go to a vegetable vendor, a farmer, for vegetables. Now if you say, “Bhaiya aadha kilo aalu dena”, then he asks you back, “What did you say?”, in the local language, which is Kannada.
From the above illustration, the disadvantage is that your communication skills are poor!!
And the advantage is that when the farmer comes to know you are not from Karnataka and still understand and speak Kannada then you can see a smile on his face which represents that our language, Kannada, is respected and learned. He will remember you no matter what and sometimes when you are short of money to buy some vegetables he will not hesitate to loan you some.
I don't mean to brag about ourselves but, yeah, we Kannadigas are Golden Hearted People. According to the present situation if you show some love and respect for our state, which you live in, then we won't even think twice to help you from any difficulty. Even if you don't, we people still help you. That is why there are less than 40% proper Kannadigas in Bengaluru.
So, to sum up it is not about Kannada, it is about speaking one language only. Wherever you go you need to learn, understand and speak in the local language.
