  • It is a very efficient way of delivering courses online.

  • Everyone, who are part time students or are working full time, can take advantage of web-based learning.
  • Web-based learning promotes active and independent learning.
  • As you have access to the net 24x7, you can train yourself anytime and from anywhere also.
  • It is a very convenient and flexible option; above all, you don't have to depend on anyone for anything.
  • Not only can you train yourself on a day to day basis, but also on weekends or whenever you have the free time to. There is no hard and fast rule.
  • Through discussion boards and chats, you are able to interact with everyone online and also clear your doubts if any.
  • The video instructions that are provided for audio and video learning can be rewound and seen and heard again and again if you do not happen to understand the topic first time around.

Disadvantages Of eLearning:-

  • Most of the online assessments are limited to questions that are only objective in nature.
  • There is also the problem of the extent of security of online learning programs.
  • The authenticity of a particular student's work is also a problem as online just about anyone can do a project rather than the actual student itself.
  • The assessments that are computer marked generally have a tendency of being only knowledge-based and not necessarily practicality-based.

advantages

It’s cheaper: Your users can learn with any device that is connected to the Internet. There’s no need to rent a building or pay for expensive utility bills that are required to provide students with a learning facility. In addition, students and teachers will no longer commute to class, thereby saving them money as well!

It takes less time: Not only does eliminating the need to commute save money, but it also saves everyone time. Moreover, the teacher or trainer doesn’t need to give the same class repeatedly to different groups of students. He or she only needs to prepare the content once and then share it with different groups at anytime necessary.

It allows for self-paced learning: Students or trainees can take courses from their own devices anytime and anywhere. So, those who don’t have time for traditional classes can learn online when they have the time.

It’s modern: Most people today prefer to consume content using the Internet. The very fact that you are reading this article online is proof of that! We now use the Internet to read the news, watch our favorite TV shows, chat with friends, book appointments, shop, and so much more. Considering all of the convenience the Internet has added to our daily lives, why should education remain strictly traditional instead of utilizing the advantages provided by the Internet?

DISADVANTAGES:

(2) Bandwidth/browser limitations may restrict instructional methodologies -

Again, you are constrained by the technology. If your content relies on a lot of video,  audio, or intense graphics, and your audience isn’t on a T1 line, Net delivery will  only frustrate your learners.

(3) Limited bandwidth means slower performance for sound, video, and large  graphics. .

(4) Someone must provide web server access, control usage, and bill users (if  applicable) - The Net doesn’t magically solve all of your resource issues.

(5) Time required for downloading applications

28.8 kpbs modem if you are delivering training to an external audience or over the  Internet. Your training might be great, but if your audience isn’t patient enough to  wait for it to download, it doesn’t matter.

(6) Student assessment and feedback is limited - The Internet provides a wonderful  means to get all kinds of information back and forth to your audience, but it also  makes it harder to assess some types of student feedback and information.

(7) Many, if not most, of today's web-based training programs are too static, with  little if any interactivity - This is probably due to the bandwidth limitation, but if we  deliver poor, page-turning training, we can’t expect stellar results from our learners.

(8) Cannot design and develop robust multimedia courses - The bandwidth

limitations of the Net constrain what can be delivered effectively.

(9) Are computers replacing human contact? - The Net is not right for all training.
