Mobilephones: Boon or Bane

Everything in life encompasses a twin nature, wealthy or poor, health or unwellness. All things in the universe are often a boon (good) or a bane (bad) or in different words, a blessing or a curse. So it is with mobile phones.

Mobile phone usage is growing at a rapid rate, and because of covid-19, its on peak.

Today, the world is unimaginable without the omnipresent mobile phones. From the youngsters aged 9 to the older aged 90, everybody encompasses a smartphone currently.

Here are some facts regarding mobile phones:

- 21% of kids aged 8 years use a smartphone (so does my nephew who is just 9).

- Children beneath 9 years spent a minimum of two hours each day using mobile screens (I guess its above than that).

Mobile Phones: Boon or Bane? Let’s start with the negatives first.

  • Everything is best when used in moderation and this is the case with mobile phones. Parents and teachers must not ban, but regulate the use of mobile phones at home and at school.

At home, parents must oversee the use of mobile phones and observe the content of the websites and applications their children are using. They should also limit the unnecessary use of mobile phones by clearly describing at what times it can be used. During the exam they must avoid the social media.

Mobile Phones: Boon

  • 62% of parents feel that mobile phones encourage children’s learning, may be as per now, it will be 80% or something.
  • 45% of parents want to buy or plan to buy mobile phones to support their children’s education because of Covid-19 it is 90%.

  • Apart from this, mobile phones help teachers and parents to contact children at all times with a call. Students can also call their close relatives in case of an emergency, thus confirming their safety.
  • Because of this pandemic, students are now getting more aware of the technology.
