The Advantages and Disadvantages of providing a large clear cover to reinforcement in flexural member
- When we provide a clear cover for the reinforcement we do that for numerous no reasons; the first reason is the wrath of the environment (Water, wind and many other factors ) which can cause corrosion; and many other chemicals of nature like chlorides, carbon dioxide and all
- It can give protection from fire and also
- Now for disadvantages when we try to give a thick cover to reinforcement that can also increase the crack width of the concrete reinforcements.
- Now when the crack widths are larger than 0.3 mm moisture and the harmful chemical could enter from there and the reason it is given it gets violated; so there should be a suitable thickness for the cover.
