‘Advantages and disadvantages’ of union territory in India:

Advantages:

  • The union territories have lower taxes as compared to the states.
  • They are directly under the ‘control of the Central government’.

Disadvantages:

  • Union Territories are administrative units that enjoy very ‘little power’ and are controlled by the Union government.
  • All powers rest with Union government.
  • They do have any legislative assembly and there is only a Lieutenant Governor, who manages the administration of the territory with their chief secretary.

The ‘Union territories’ are smaller in size as compared to the states. In the Union territory, the President is the executive head. The ‘union territories’ are managed by the ‘administrator’ who is appointed by the President.
