In fact an aneroid barometer is found to be less accurate when compared with a mercury barometer. But the advantage in an aneroid barometer is the quick and easy handling of the instrument. It can be carried from one place to another without any apprehension of damage to the instrument whereas this is not possible in the case of mercury barometer.Further it can be fitted to an aircraft to sustain variations and rolls of the aircraft whereas a mercury barometer cannot be fitted like this. But an aneroid barometer is subject to errors owing to temperature and hystersis lag and these cannot be fully eliminated.

Aneroid barometers have a mechanical adjustment for altitude that allows the equivalent sea level pressure to be read directly and without further adjustment if the instrument is not moved to a different altitude.

The only particular advantage of a mercury barometer is that it's a direct measurement -- there's no calibration involved. If you can measure the height of the column above the pool and you know the density of mercury, you have the pressure.
