I assume you mean, as compared to other means of investigating the past. If that is the case I would suggest that Archaeology:

is less prone to bias than written records.

can tell us about times long before written records.

gives us details that were to mundane for writers to consider recording, but are none the less unknown in our time.

can tell us stories about the illiterate.

and can show us details that the people of the time did not even know: we can now examine goods with instruments that tell us about their chemical composition etc.

Archeology is a wonderful complement to history, and knowledge about the past is an important part of understanding the present. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it

a) Archaeology gives us detailed information on material culture that other sources may not

have.

b) Archaeology gives a sense of time, as the artefacts are dated.

c) It complements other sources of information and thus ensures authenticity of the information.

d) It provides information of varied nature depending on the materials found on the site. For

example, if tools, weapons, coins, bones, rock paintings and other items are located, at a site, a

lot of information maybe deduced.
