adverb did he go after school yesterday
Answers
Which sentence is correct, 'I did went to school yesterday' or 'I did go to school yesterday'?
In the above sentences, “did” is a helping verb in the past tense. It is always followed by the base form of the main verb , so it would be: Did I go? She did not go. You did go, etc.
In most cases, do/did is used for questions and for negative statements (as in the first two examples in the previous paragraph). The usual way of making a statement in the past, is to use the past tense form of the appropriate verb: I walked, I thought, I went. So it would be more natural to say I went to school yesterday.
If asked, “Did you go to school yesterday?” the usual response would be “Yes, I did.” The sentence “I did go to school yesterday” would only be used to emphasize the fact, usually following a denial. As in:
-I heard that you didn’t go to school yesterday.
-What are you talking about? I did go to school yesterday.
