Adverbials /verbal noun -compound word in englishs

What is the difference between verbal and deverbal nouns? I know that all deverbal nouns are nouns that came from verbs, but they lost all grammar properties of them. I don't understand why some people call the ing form, with the article before and the preposition "of" after, the verbal noun, while it is the deverbal?

This form has no grammar properties of the verb as well as any other deverbal noun (love, want,choice,pick-nouns)
