aeration process in water purification system
Answers
Answer:
Aeration is the process of bringing water and air into close contact.
This is done for the following reasons :
a) provision of oxygen to bacteria for treating and stabilizing the unpurified water.
b) decarbonisation : reduction of carbon dioxide
c) Air stripping : reduction of concentrations of volatile organics, such as chloroform, and dissolved gases, such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.

Aeration process can be done by -
introducing air to water, or water to air.
Based on this, the two main categories of aerators are given below :
(NOTE : aerators are mechanical devices used for aeration)
Air-Into-Water Aerators
1) Pressure aerators
2) Centrifugal aerators
Water-Into-Air Aerators
1) Cone aerators
2) Cascade aerators (check image)
3) Spray aerators
