Transverse section through hypanthium of clove shows the following characteristics. Epidermis with thick cuticle with stomata. Collenchymatous parenchyma containing numerous schizolysigenous oil glands. Calcium oxalate clusters in parenchyma.

The shape of leaves are lanceole . Leaves are entire, apex is acute with a spine at the top. Leaflets have asymmetrical base with transverse lines. Transverse lines are more prominent on lower surface

It have short, crooked, thick trunk and the wood is white and hard. Branches are irregular and covered with a smooth ash- coloured bark. Leaves are opposite ,short stalked. The shape of leaves is oval and smooth and shiny on both sides.
