Anaerobic respiration is respiration using electron acceptors other than molecular oxygen (O2). ... In aerobic organisms undergoing respiration, electrons are shuttled to an electron transport chain, and the final electron acceptor is oxygen.

Aerobic respiration is the process of producing cellular energy involving oxygen. Cells break down food in the mitochondria in a long, multistep process that produces roughly 36 ATP. The first step in is glycolysis, the second is the citric acid cycle and the third is the electron transport system.

Heya !!!

Here is your answer :-

1. Aerobic respiration : The respiratory process in which a large amount of energy is released in the presence of oxygen from the breakdown of the food substances, is known as aerobic respiration.

Glucose ----- Pyruvate + Energy ------ 6 carbon dioxide + 6 water + 38 ATP

This process starts in the cytoplasm and continues in the mitochondria of the cell. Each glucose molecule release 38 ATP molecules.

Water and carbon dioxide are produced as the waste products. The energy released during this process is used for all other life processes. The release of energy in the aerobic respiration is a lot greater than in the anaerobic respiration.

2. Anaerobic respiration : The respiratory process in which small amount of energy is released in the absence of oxygen from the breakdown of food substances is known as an aerobic respiration. It takes place in the yeast, bacteria and in human muscles.

The anaerobic respiration produces only 2 ATP for each glucose molecule and carbon dioxide is released during this process.

It is termed as fermentation in microorganisms and is of following types on the basis of product formed:

(a). Alcoholic Fermentation : The incomplete breakdown of sugar into ethanol and carbon dioxide to release energy is known as alcoholic fermentation. This process occurs mainly in yeast, which is used to produce beer, wine, toddy, cheese etc., by brewing. It can be summarised as:

Glucose ----- Pyruvate + Energy ---- 2 Ethanol + 2 carbon dioxide + 2 ATP

(b). Lactic Acid Fermentation : The process of incomplete breakdown of sugar into lactic acid and energy in some bacteria, like in yogurt making , some bacteria cause milk to turn sour. These bacteria feed on sugar and break it into lactic acid.

In our muscles, during vigorous physical exercise, glucose is metabolized to form lactic acid. The accumulation of lactic acid cause fatigue and muscle cramps after problems exercise can be summarised as :

Glucose ----- Pyruvate + Energy ------ 2Lactic Acid + 2 ATP
