After the massive defeat of the Sikhs by the Britishers, the annexation of Punjab to the Britsih Dominions was done by Lord Dalhousie in 1849.
He was the Britsh governer general who finally ended the supremacy of Sikhs in the northwestern regions of India.
This continued after the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
The prime reason for the defeat of the Sikhs was internal differences and treachery.
