The initial activity of the radioactive sample is 8000 dps.

The activity of the given radioactive sample changes from 2000 to 1000 dps in 12 hours . Therefore , the half life of the radioactive sample is 12 hours .

24 hours is equal to 2 half life cycles . The initial acitivity of the sample will be halved twice from the actual value after 24 hours .

Initial activity = 2000 × (2)²

= 8000 dps .
