According to the question,

$\sf x + 24 = 3(x - 4)$

By multiplying,

$\sf x + 24 = 3x - 12$

$\sf x - 3x = - 12 - 24$

By subtracting,

$\sf - 2x = - 36$

$\sf 2x = 36$

Solving the value of x,

$\sf x=\dfrac{36}{2}$

$\sf x=18$

Therefore, the present age is 18 years.
