After a rainy season, while Mani was strolling in her garden, noticed many small plants of various fruits and flowers which were not present in her garden. She wondered where they had come from as nobody had planted them there. As Mani loves gardening she started cleaning the area around the small plants and taking care of them.

(a) How plants propagate through sexual mode of reproduction?

(b) What is an embryo?

(c) What do you think the plants grown in Mani’s garden had come from?

(d) How do seeds of some fruits like tomato, guava or brinjal propagate?

         i) Animal faeces

Explanation:

a)  Flower of the plants carry male and female gametes on stigma and anther respectively, the male gamete transfer from anther to stigma by the process called pollination . After the pollination the male gamete fertilizes with the female gamete present in the ovary of the plant and form embryo which further germinate into seeds , And the seed will grow into a new plant in future.

b) Embryo is the initial body structure of animals and plants formed by fertilization of the male and female gamete  it further develops into a seed or an egg.

c) The plants in mani's garden were grown because of asexual or sexual reproduction , as the pollen grains came from other plants in the garden by medium of water or wind .
d) Seeds of these kind of fruits get propagated by the animal faeces  when they consume these fruits .

(a) In the sexual mode of reproduction, new plants are produced through the fusion of female and male gametes which forms the embryo. This fusion of gametes gives rise to the seed which is the site that would bear the new plant structures in the future.

(b)An embryo is the early stage of development of a multicellular organism.

(i) In general, in organisms that reproduce sexually, embryonic development is the part of the life cycle that begins just after fertilization and continues through the formation of body structures, such as tissues and organs.

(c) The seed which is thrown and  because of the rain these seeds are  develop into plant.

(d)seeds of these types of fruits are generally propagated through animal faeces(i) during they consume these fruits.
