After allowing two succesive discounts of 15% and 5%, a fan is sold for Rs.2907. What is the marked price of the fan?

You have to keep in mind if two successive discounts are given as x% and y% , then total discount will be

(x+y -xy/100) % i.e. In this question

(15+5-75/100)% = 20-0.75 = 19.25% .

Now, SP is given = Rs 2907

Let Marked price will be x.

As per the question,

x - 19.25 % of x = 2907

x - 19.25x /100 = 2907

80.75 x = 2907 * 100

x = 2907 *100/80.75 = 3600.

So, Marked price = Rs 3600
