Original price of the phone = Rs. 15000 [ The correct option is A) 15000 ]

Given :

After availing a successive discount of 18% and 6%, Raghu bought a smart phone for Rs. 11,562.

To find :

The original price of the phone is

A) 15000

B) 14500

C) 12950

D) None of these

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Form the equation to calculate original price of the phone

Let original price of the phone = Rs. C

Since after availing a successive discount of 18% and 6%, Raghu bought a smart phone for Rs. 11,562

So by the given condition

\displaystyle \sf C \times \bigg[1 - \frac{18}{100} \bigg] \times \bigg[1 - \frac{6}{100} \bigg] = 11562

Step 2 of 2 :

Calculate original price of the phone

\displaystyle \sf C \times \bigg[1 - \frac{18}{100} \bigg] \times \bigg[1 - \frac{6}{100} \bigg] = 11562

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }C \times \frac{82}{100} \times \frac{94}{100} = 11562

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }C    = 11562 \times  \frac{100}{82}  \times  \frac{100}{94}

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }C = 15000

∴ The original price of the phone = Rs. 15000

Hence the correct option is A) 15000
