After discussing the three types of plate boundaries, can you now differentiate
them in terms of the events or processes that take place along with them? Let's see
how much have you learned. On a separate paper, which of the geologic processes
namely:
.
subduction
• earthquake
tsunami
• seafloor spreading
take/s place in each of the plate boundaries, and why do they happen? You may use
illustrations to help you out with your answers.

Earthquakes, tsunamis and seafloor spreading occur in the tectonic plates of the earth, namely the convergent, transform and the divergent plates.

  1. Earthquake occurs in convergent boundary plates.
  2. Tsunami occurs in transform boundary plates.
  3. Seafloor spreading occurs in divergent boundary plates.
  • During earthquakes, molten rock and lava combine and rise along the convergent boundary plates adding materials to it with so much force that it fractures the surface, causing violent shakes and destruction.
  • Tsunamis occur when transform plate boundaries combine into each other, almost like a mega earthquake under water to displace large amount of water and thus causing a tsunami. It usually wipes entire populations and is infamous for submerging entire islands.
  • During seafloor spreading, divergent plates i.e tectonic plates diverge from each other such that a gap or a void is created allowing magma from mantle to rise through and form an elevated area on the seabed.
