The falling rain binds to dust still in the air and brings it down. By wetting the soil, it also prevents more dust from getting airborne.
The rain water clears the dust particles which are able to clear from the air and it acts as a cleansing agent also. Even, the unwanted layers ( the layers of thick ash) was cleared by the rain (water molecules)
