During the electroplating process the anodes which are made up of pure silver start to decompose and dissolve in the electrolyte (the solution used in the process) and finally gets deposited over the object, that is, the spoon.

After electroplating of a spoon with silver it was found that the anofe has become thin , because -
• In the electroplating process where we electroplate a layer or silver on the metal substance :
Anode = pure silver
Cathode = metal substance
• Now where we are performing the electroplating process the pure silver in the anode gets transferred on the metal substance in the cathode.
• Due to this transferring process the anode's silver gets thinner than it's initial amount before the electroplating process.
