During the Revolution of 1789, the revolutionaries wanted to create a consitution above the power of King Louis XVI in similiarity to the english monarch but the king tried to escape his land which was viewed as treason threfore his was executed and France became a republic with their own calendar until the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte.

After the Congress of Vienna, France became a kingdom again before it was overthrown under a new constitutional monarch,Louis Phillipe. He was bestowed under the title king of the french instead of king of France to signify his love for the people but he was overthrown again due to his aristocratic background in 1848. France was another republic but not for long before a coup d’état organized by president Napoleon III succeeded in making him the french emperor with another new constitution. His rule ended after the franco-prussian war making him the last monarch and emperor of french history.
