Stubble burning, as it is commonly known, has its ups and downs.
Pros
· It kills herbicide resistant weeds
· Kills pests, slugs etc.
· It is cheap and quick
Cons
· The intense heat destroys nutrients in the soil
· Causes pollution from the thick smoke
· Fire risk – risk of fire spreading and getting out of control
Alternate methods of stubs disposal should be considered, as drawbacks far outweigh the merits of stubble burning.
