Heating camphor results in sublimation

Explanation:

  • When we heat camphor, it does not melt or becomes its liquid form, it gets converted into gas.
  • This process by which a substance directly converts into its vapor state without changing into liquid state is called sublimation.
  • Therefore all camphor evaporates directly into vapor state leaving no residue behind. Although if a mixture of camphor and salt is taken, then non volatile salt is left behind while camphor sublimes.
  • Camphor is an organic compound. This has been used in medicine and for incense .
