Second option i.e gradually lost their rights is the correct answer.

During his initial years he began to strengthen his army, improving the economy and destruction of his political enemies. But as there were anti-Jewish elements in his party he ordered the boycott of Jewish businessmen  in 1933 and gradually through various laws excluded Jews from government and public employment. In 1935 he passed the Nuremberg laws by which Jews were reduced to subject status and lost their rights as citizens. After that in late 1930s and early 1940s there was large scale persecution of Jews by the hands of Hitler.

Hitler was said to be against Jews and he killed thousands of Jews and detained many more in concentration camps.

Those detained were put in horrible conditions and places where clean air and water was a privilege.

After Hitler came to power, the Jews of Germany gradually lost their rights.
