conception itself can occurs anywhere between a few hours or 5days after intercource.
This is because sperm can live inside uterus and fallopian tube for up to 5 days.
If during that period you ovulate(release and egg from your ovary) than the sperm can come into contact with the ovum to make an embryo...

After intercourse,pregnancy actually doesn't start the very first day.It can take upto 4-6 days for the union of the male and female gamete which occurs in the ampullary isthmus junction of the fallopian tube.At the process of entering,sperm goes several changes like it undergoes maturation process called capacitation in female's reproductive tract which increases its motility and prepares it for the acrosomal reaction.Once the sperm finds the way ,the cortical reaction occur.In order,though, a suffiecient number of sperm should appear at right time there to meet oocyte. Along the way, whole group of sperm halts and gets reduced.Thats why sperm retains its fertilizing capabitity for upto 4 days.
