The British left India in 1947 just a year after the US defeated Japan to send world war two. At that time there was a lack of stability in the world with the US the only stable power, Europe's once great powers crumbled and the rise of communism began. A communist India free of Democracy and fully socialist completely absorbing the ways of Lenin and Marx was a dream of many including CPI(M) and CPI. Since communism was growing in Asia especially poor and newly independent countries at the time no one thought India could be democratic
