After 2000m depth the temperature of the seawater is uniform everywhere.

The temperature of the sea

The temperature at the surface of the water is influenced by two factors- latitude and season. At a smaller depth, the temperature remains the same throughout.

The temperature of the sea at different regions

  • water gets colled and heated in a slower phase. As the seawater stays in continuous motion this results in a change of the temperature on the surface during different periods.
  • As the depth of water increases the temperature of water decreases. When we move from the equator to polar regions the temperature of water decreases.
  • At 200 meters depth, 12-degree Celsius, and at 2000 meters depth the temperature is 4 degrees celsius and is uniform throughout.

Hence, as the depth increases the temperature decreases. At the surface levels, the temperature is 27 - 30 degrees celsius due to mixing by waves, latitude, and season.
