Solution :-

Let us assume that, total pages in the book were x .

So,

→ Total pages read = 4/7 of x + 8 pages = (4x/7) + 8

then,

→ Total pages left = Total pages - Total pages read = x - {(4x/7) + 8} = {(3x/7) - 8}

→ Total pages left = (1/3) of x

→ (3x/7) - 8 = (x/3)

→ (3x/7) - (x/3) = 8

→ (9x - 7x)/21 = 8

→ (2x/21) = 8

→ 2x = 8 × 21

→ x = 4 × 21

→ x = 84 pages .

Another way :-

since (1/3) of the book is remaining, total pages reads are equal to (2/3) of the book .

So,

→ (4x/7) + 8 = (2x/3)

→ (2x/3) - (4x/7) = 8

→ (14x - 12x)/21 = 8

→ (2x/21) = 8

→ 2x = 8 × 21

→ x = 4 × 21
