BASICALLY, I DON'T AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT.

The poem was written by Adrienne Rich in 1951. In the poem, the poetess has described that how a women living an unhappy married life uses art to get a mental relief. So, we can say that voice of women was suppressed by men at that time when divorce was not an option for women.

But it can not be said for present era. Today women enjoy equal rights as men do in most parts of the country and divorce is no more a taboo.
