Answers
At the beginning of story, Bholi is portrayed as a helpless child who is struggling to get acknowledged even in her own home. No one cares for her or is fond of her. In fact, she is sent to study because her parents think that there is no hope of her getting married and settling down. So she is carted off to school, against her will.
Years later, at the time of her marriage, Bholi remains quiet even when her parents want to marry her off to a man who is her father's age. The reader feels that she is still the quiet and unconfident individual that she was when she was a child.
Bholi takes the reader completely by surprise when she speaks. Her words are not merely spoken out of anger. Instead, she very boldly takes a decision that was unheard of in her village- she refuses to marry the greedy groom. Instead, she chooses to stay on at her parents' home and take care of them.
Putting all the incidents together, the impression that the reader gets of the protagonist Bholi is that she is quiet, but not weak. She is an independent thinking woman who has the courage to oppose age-old systems. Education has transformed her into someone who can take decisions for herself and who despite being a female, is determined to chalk out her own destiny.
