"The Early Nationalists (Moderates) in the national movement were drawn from the educated middle-class professionals and mostly educated in England, influenced by western thought.

They had implicit trust in the British value system of justice, morality and uprightness and believed that the British Raj in India was a blessing: since it attempted to remove the social problems then existing in the Indian society, such as the Sati pratha and the caste system.

They, unlike their successors, believed in demanding reforms through legal and peaceful means within the framework of the Raj.

Thus, it is correct that the early phase of the nationalist movement was largely dominated by the educated Indians.
