Mitochondria are not visible under a compound microscope when they are stained with methylene blue .But,in order to observe mitochondria we stain them with Janus Green B Stain that is a vital stain, under the electron microscope. They are really small to be seen under compound microscope

js1206Jaskirat: Please tell the reason
sharanjeet185: According to me, it should be:
sharanjeet185: That mitochondria are living organelles and thus we need a living stain to observe them.also, they are small and can't be seen under a compound microscope may be
sharanjeet185: The Janus green stain changes colour in presence of oxygen and as mitochondria are involved in production of ATP they must be changing the colour:)
