After British routed from Delhi there was no uprising for almost a week as the news took time to travel.

  • There realistically was no fierce rebellion after the British were promptly expelled from Delhi. It took lot of time for the information to be conveyed which led to a rebellion rush.
  • Various local regiments mutinied and came forward at central locations of Lucknow, Kanpur and Delhi, to voluntarily unite with other forces.
  • The local citizens of the towns and villages also rose up in revolt after them and gathered around local leaders, zamindars and chiefs who were ready to positively assert their authority and fight against the British.
