Basically, during thunder N≡N breaks at a temperature 3000°C and nascent nitrogen is formed which is very unstable. The atomic nitrogen reacts with atmospheric oxygen to create NOₓ compound which further reacts with water to create aqueous nitric and nitrous acid. These goes to soil, breaks down and forms various nitrogenous radicles which are further absorbed by plants through absorption process.
