let total length ( distance) of whole journey be

x Km.

According to question

total distance = covered distance + left distance

x = 45 + 3/8 of x

x - 3/8x = 45

(8x - 3x)/8 = 45

5x/8 = 45

x/8 = 9

→ x = 8 x 9 = 72 Km

so total distance of the journey is x i.e. 72Km
