Answer:

A simple formula:

total amount= amount spent + remaining amount

Step-by-step explanation:

now here let the total amount with venu be x

money he spent at book shop = 1/3 of x

let the money spent by him in canteen be y

remaining money= 5/12x

applying the above formula:

total amount= amount spent in canteen +amount spent in bookshop + remaining amount

x= y+1/3x+5/12x

x-1/3x-5/2x=y

x-1/3x-y=5/12x

by taking lcm

3x-x-3y/3=5/12x

cross multiplying

3x-x-3y=5/12x multiplied by 3

3x-x-3y=5/4x

2x-3y = 5/4x

cross multiplying:

8x-12y=5x

bringing like terms on one side

8x-5x=12y

3x=12y

write x in terms of y

y=3/12x

y=1/4x

here y is the amount used in canteen

so amount used in canteen is 1/4

(b) whenever they ask about how much more than something always remember to subtract

so here= amount used in bookshop - amount used in canteen

            = 1/3-1/4

            =  4-3/12

            = 1/12

so 1/12 of the money was spent more in bookshop than canteen.

hope it helps u mate
