It is because during vigorous exercise our body is not able to supply enough oxygen to support the body , hence we breathe deeply and fast.

And lactic acid is formed due to lack of oxygen, and lactic acid forms cramps in our muscles, this is the reason why we experience cramps in our muscles after vigorous exercise
