After having won the Second Battle of Panipat in 1556 AD, Bairam Khan, the mentor of adolescent Mughal Emperor Akbar (Who later became Akbar The Great), had urged him to slay the captive Hindu King Hemu with his own hands and acquire the title of Ghazi. Akbar assumed the title of Ghazi after slaying Hemu.

Earlier also, the title of Ghazi was assumed by Babur (Grandfather of Akbar) after defeating Rana Sanga In the Battle of Khanwa (1527 AD).
