If you search deep in history of this city it's actually named after the famous, Franklin D. Roosevelt. That's why it was known Roosevelt town.

And later all it was finely developed by Dr Bidhan Chandra roy who served as the CM of the state, naming it after Nilratan Sircar's daughter, Kalyani Sarkar.
